A Life Overflowing with Gratitude and Glory

15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15–17 (NIV)
Commentary

In the midst of demanding careers and busy schedules, we often live in spiritual anxiety, having lost our sense of peace and gratitude. When we allow our emotions or external circumstances to dictate our hearts, we experience conflict and disconnection within the community we were called to as "one body." A life where the Word of Christ does not dwell richly inevitably feels hollow.

Paul commands us to let the peace of Christ "rule" in our hearts and urges us to be thankful (v. 15). When the Word of Christ dwells in us richly, it enables us to teach and encourage one another with wisdom and to worship God with sincere gratitude (v. 16). Doing everything—in both word and deed—in the name of the Lord Jesus while giving thanks to the Father is the definition of a life that glorifies God (v. 17).

Today, let your heart be governed by the peace of Christ. Being thankful is not an option; it is a spiritual discipline for every believer. Gain spiritual vitality through the Word and praise, and share love and wisdom within your community. Seek the spiritual maturity that glorifies God by giving thanks in all things.

Difficult Words
- Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts: A spiritual command to allow the peace given by Jesus Christ—rather than worldly anxiety or personal emotions—to govern your inner life, fostering unity within the community.
- Singing to God with gratitude in your hearts: The essential element of worship that manifests when Christ’s Word dwells richly within. it is a heartfelt response to God’s grace.
My Meditation Record
1 What is the communal reason why the peace of Christ must rule in our hearts (v. 15), and what fruit is produced when the Word of Christ dwells in us richly? (v. 16)
2 Are you currently letting anxiety or worldly worries rule your heart instead of Christ's peace? Does your life reflect the spiritual posture of a thankful person?
3 Meditating on the command to "do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus," choose one mundane task today and perform it with a heart of intentional gratitude to God.
