What warning did Jesus give regarding the salt of the earth (v. 13), and what did He say people would ultimately do upon seeing the good deeds of the "light"? (Refer to v. 16)
Are you currently losing your "flavor" (spiritual influence) as salt by being swept away by the corruption of the world? Are your good deeds truly bringing glory to your Father in heaven?
Meditating on the command to "let your light shine before others," find one small, practical act of kindness in your most immediate community (work or home) that can point others toward the goodness of your heavenly Father.
As young professionals, we often feel spiritually helpless in the face of the world's darkness and corruption. It is easy to feel frustrated, thinking our influence is too small or our good deeds are useless. However, when we forget our identity as "salt and light" and try to conform to worldly standards, we lose our direction and fail to reveal God's glory.
Jesus declared that we are the salt and light of the world (vv. 13–14). Just as salt becomes useless if it loses its saltiness, a Christian cannot influence the world if they lose their spiritual identity. Light is meant to be placed on a stand to shine before others, so that they may see our good deeds and glorify our Father in heaven (v. 16).
Today, restore your spiritual identity. Embrace your role as salt that prevents corruption and adds flavor, and as light that illuminates the darkness to show the true path. Your good deeds are not for self-glory but are spiritual fruits meant to honor your heavenly Father. Live boldly as a light in this world.
